It really depends on the type of employer or entity that will be searching your background. But the chances are that it will follow you.   Surveys show that about 80 percent of employers conduct criminal background checks on job applicants.  Increasingly, these background checks are nationwide.   It used to be that national background checks were difficult to perform and expensive.   However, the interent and computers have made it where a pretty decent background check can be done for about $50 and it only takes minutes.
