I was arrested in 1997 for domestic Battery. My case has been expunged with the state of Nevada. But it still shows up on the federal level..I have problems getting into Canada and can't purchase any firearms… Iwas told that  I may be able to get a pardon…Can you tell me who to contact or what do I need to do to start this process…Thank you Jeff Pearson

A couple questions….

1.  You say you were arrested for domestic battery, were you convicted of it?

2.  NV does not offer expungement, the process is called record sealing.  Did you have the record seaeld?  If so, by what court?

 

If you were convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence or domestic battery in Nevada, record sealing (expungement) will not restore your firearm rights which are removed by operation of federal law.  Nor will a pardon.   The way the federal government interprets the law is that the state of Nevada cannot restore rights they did not take away.
