Iowa law does not currently allow for expungement of theft charges unless you receive a deferred judgment.  Deferred judgments typically involve higher fines and a probationary period but with good behavior the matter is considered a non-conviction and will be cleared from the court file.  Theft offenses are some of the worst to have on your record, so you should consider requesting the deferred judgment or retaining an attorney to assist you.
