Hello,
Â
I'll try to keep the story short, but I am trying to see if your law office will be able to help me.
I came home one night around December 2009 and got into a verbal argument with my aunt who I was living with at the time. The argument escalated and she pushed me, so I decided it was time to go. I attempted to go to my room to get my personal belongings and leave, but she and her son followed me in to the room and continued yelling. Out of nowhere, her son punched me and I blacked out for a minute or two. I got up and ran out of the house (without my belongings) to the neighbor's house to use her telephone. I called the police and they arrived to the house, but they didn't really listen to what I had to say. I wanted to press charges against my aunt's son, but instead they arrested ME for assault and disorderly conduct. Bear in mind, I did not physically assault anyone.
I am not sure what they told the police officers, but I spent a night in jail. The next morning, the judge released me on OR because I maintained my innocence that I did not physically assault anybody and I had no prior criminal record. I was ordered no contact with the "victim". We later met with the district attorney and my aunt recanted some of what she told the police officers. The district attorney offered something called "deferred prosecution" which I didn't really understand. He told me that as long as I did not commit any crime for one year, the charges would go away. Of course, I knew that I am a good citizen and that I can easily go one year without charges, so I agreed.
I am scared that an arrest record showing assault/disorderly conduct will haunt me in the future. I plan on attending medical school, eventually pursuing a medical license, and I have a feeling this arrest could prevent me from doing so. Do you think there is any way to get this sealed/expunged from my record? If you think there is any possible chance, I will be in need of your services, as I'm pretty sure I will not be able to do this alone.

P.S. If it matters, I no longer live with my aunt but we have since reconciled and are on good terms.
